​Goldberg Variations

Standing at the edge of two eras, the liminal space between can be transformed into a hypnotic experience through a dedicated artistic metamorphosis.

In 2022, the Scent Festival Zurich commissioned Vincent Micotti to create a series of perfume compositions for a pivotal project “Duftkonzert - Perfume Concert”. In collaboration with the pianist Oliver Schnyder and the Museum Aargau in Switzerland, this project aimed to give the public a unique perspective on Bach's work through an immersive concert experience. By creating hyper-realistic olfactory representations of Bach's Goldberg Variations，attendees would be able to enjoy the music using an entirely different sense. At the intersection of beauty, art, and sensory experience, this project dares to do something different.

To capture the scenography behind Bach's Goldberg Variations, three perfume compositions were created: “The composer’s workspace”, “The forest promenade”, and the finale: “CLAP 2138”. While there is a certain delightful novelty inherent in this idea, this project is by no means an empty marketing exercise intended to satisfy a certain kind of curiosity. The creation of these elaborate fragrances is the result of innumerable hours of meticulous work and creativity.

This is where we begin: jumping into a time capsule, traversing the miraculous space between Bach’s time and today, bursting with sparkling energy. Here we experience the finest of both worlds, and we persist in our search for enrichment of feelings and perceptions.
